A method using induced waves to study pressure propagation in human arteries.

چکیده
THE observation that small pressure disturbances could be induced in the brachial artery and readily detected on radial arterial pressure records prompted the study of induced waves of two general types, impact transients' and forced sinusoidal waves. This report describes the method we have used to study "impact" waves and indicates the general nature of our findings. The interpretation of pulse wave transmission has been based upon the concepts of wave propagation in an ideal elastic thin walled tube. These principles were first developed and applied to the arterial pulse by Thomas Young and have been further formulated by many others. While the qualitative nature of such an interpretation seems to be acceptable, the quantitative aspects of pulse wave propagation remain open to question. Some of the limitations to quantitative interpretation of conventional pulse wave velocity are imposed by the methods of measurement, while additional difficulty arises from the fact that a living artery resembles a thin walled ideal elastic cylindrical tube only as a first approximation. Previous methods for the study of arterial wave propagation in living human subjects have utilized the wave produced by cardiac systole. Direct, i.e., intra-arterial pressure records, have been obtained in only a few instances. In all cases the pulse wave transmission time is calculated from the delay in the inscription of "corresponding" points on the pulse contour. The fact that the pulse form

Background and objective: The circle of Willis (COW) supports adequate blood supply to the brain. The cardiovascular system, in the current study, is modeled using an equivalent electronic system focusing on the COW.Method: In our previous study we used 42 compartments to model whole car- diovascular system. In the current study, nevertheless, we extended our model by using 63 compartments to m...
متن کاملSolution of propagation of acoustic-gravity waves in the atmosphere using finite difference method of order two
Investigating waves propagation’s equation in the atmosphere is one of the important and widely used issues in various sciences, which has attracted many researchers. A type of propagating waves is an acoustic-gravity wave. These type of waves have a lot of stationarity properties and can be propagate to a high altitude in the atmosphere. The equation of acoustic-gravity wave propagation is a h...
متن کاملAn Algorithm for Modeling and Interpretation of Seismoelectric Data
Generally speaking, seismoelectric modeling is a prospecting method based on seismic and electromagnetic waves, in which waves generated by a seismic source at the boundary of the two environments generate a relative fluid-solid motion formed as a result of antagonism between the elastic properties of the environment with the saturated fluid. This research has as its objective, a study of the e...

The application of Extreme value analysis method in heat wave hazard climatology; case study in Mid-Southern Iran Abstract Greenhouse warming poses the main cause of atmospheric hazards’ exacerbation and emergence in recent years. Earth planet has been witnessing frequent and severe natural hazards from the distant past; however, global warming has strongly influenced the occurrence of some a...
متن کاملOne-dimensional model for propagation of a pressure wave in a model of the human arterial network: comparison of theoretical and experimental results.
Pulse wave evaluation is an effective method for arteriosclerosis screening. In a previous study, we verified that pulse waveforms change markedly due to arterial stiffness. However, a pulse wave consists of two components, the incident wave and multireflected waves. Clarification of the complicated propagation of these waves is necessary to gain an understanding of the nature of pulse waves in...
